The European Development Aid community is composed of two European institutions (EuropeAid and the EIB) and more than 30 bilateral organisations from different European countries with very diverse characteristics, histories, competences, sizes, priorities.
Our goal is to achieve coherence within the community and, at the same time, benefit from the wide diversity of organisations, including the Commission and the EIB specific contributions, so as to make of plurality an opportunity for innovation.
We have an integrated and pluralistic European approach to Development Cooperation and, therefore, we want to become a working community where roles will be distributed according to competences. It will be composed of all public actors, Agencies and Administrations, driven by the common European development policy put forward by the EU.
Our high funding volume (European ODA amounted to almost 50 billion Euro in 2008), coupled with the diverse comparative advantages of the European donor family, gives Europe the potential to make a major contribution to worldwide poverty reduction and to the other challenges linked to economic and social development.
