Members of the network

The Network is open to all European Agencies and Administrations involved in the implementation of ODA.

Its current members are the implementing organisations of the European Commission and of European countries representing over 70% of the ODA of the European Union.

Activities

We have identified a limited number of broad issues which we have considered relevant for collaboration between practitioners on a relatively long term. This is why we have created 4 thematic groups. Thematic groups propose joint works on specific issues within their domain and coordinate other initiatives related to that overall theme.

But our activities are not limited to the already defined themes. We want to remain flexible and the Network can support any initiative or request by one member to organise meetings, workshops, secondments or whatever solution to work together on a particular issue or project which is relevant for European development practitioners.

Annual Meeting 2010

The annual meeting was hosted this year by AECID on 27 and 28 May. It was preceded by a meeting of directors of development agencies.
During the annual meeting, the presidency of the Practitioners' Network was handed over by AECID to DFID, who will hold the chair until the next annual meeting in May 2011.

Last Core Group meeting

The last core group meeting took place on 27 April 2010, in Brussels, in the premises that will soon also be shared by the Network Coordination Office together with the AFD and KfW representative offices.

The main issue was the preparation of the annual meeting. Also discussed were the implementation of the coordination office and the forthcoming European Development Days in December. 
 

Stockholm, 22-24 October 2009

European development Practitioners and the Practitioners' Network, like the previous years, were actively present in the 2009 edition of the European Development Days.

Many members agencies were involved in parallel events, covering all of the three main topics of the EDD for this year : the global crisis, climate change, democracy and development.

The Network had its own stand in the Development Village, which provided for a visible presence and facilitated new contacts. ...more

TR-Aid Seminar, 30 April 2010

EuropeAid invited Practitioners and Member States to an information seminar on TR-AID, a web based system developed to support sharing of information across major international donors.

Numerous participants from EuropeAid, from the Practitioners' Network but also from ministries and from international institutions participated to a follow-up seminar on joint monitoring, in the framework of the thematic group on Quality Management.

Workshop on triangular cooperation, 8 March 2010

AECID has gathered a number of participants from members of the Practitioners' Network, but also think tanks and development ministries for a meeting on Europe’s Triangular Cooperation, a modality which has been growing rapidly. This was an opportunity to share experiences, operational challenges and emerging lessons. The workshop also aimed at preparing the Bogota conference on South-South cooperation, for which a contribution is to be drafted. 

Joint training initiative, 18 Feb. 2010

V-EZ and CEFEB, the respective training centres of InWent and AFD, have gathered together a small group of practitioners in Bad Honnef near Bonn (Germany), to brainstorm about future joint initiatives in the field of human resources and training.

Keeping in mind the need to base any initiative on the specific value added that can be brought by the Practitioners' Network with regard to existing capacities and networks, the group has decided upon a limited number of concrete next steps.
 

Donors' domestic accountability Seminar, 15-16 December 2009

A wide group of development actors met in Paris for a 1,5 day conference and debate about questions raised by the accountability of development agencies in their own countries towards their governments, parliaments, civil societies etc.
